Visiting Beth Israel after the horrific burning

A month ago, a fire heavily damaged Beth Israel, Mississippi’s largest synagogue. At one time, I lived in Jackson, a 10-minute drive away from the synagogue where I attended services. I was shocked when I went to see it for myself.

It’s a place with a painful history, including a 1967 bombing tied to the Civil Rights era. Seeing it like this was deeply personal. I just wanted to share my visit and perspective and reflect on what this moment means amid rising antisemitism in the U.S.
